Tutorial to Update Nexus 4 To Android 4.4.2 KOT49H Kitkat Official OTA Update

The Nexus 4 smartphone users can now manually update their device to Android 4.4.2 KOT49H KitKat. This tutorial has 2 sections. The first method is for non-rooted Nexus 4 and the second one is for rooted Nexus 4 devices.

To follow this procedure, your phone must already be running on Android 4.4.1 KOT49E or Android 4.4 KRT16S firmware.

Before Proceed:

1.Verify the model number of your phone by navigating to the path “Settings > About Phone.” Because this Android 4.4.2 KOT49H KitKat firmware is incompatible for other devices, if you are attempting to implement the given below procedure on any other model or variants, it will brick your phone.

2.Install the USB drivers for Nexus 4 smartphone on your computer.

3.Then backup all the important data with the help of backup applications.

4.If you are not yet rooted your phone, just make sure the factory is unlocked. In case, if you have rooted your device, make sure your phone is both factory unlocked and bootloader unlocked. Also, make sure that your phone is pre-rooted with custom recovery installed.

5.Charge your Nexus 4 device fully or at least upto 80 percent.

6.In case, if you are stuck at booting or got any boot loop issues, just perform the “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvik cache” a few more times before rebooting.

Procedure:

Method 1 [For Non-Rooted Devices]:
1.First download the Android 4.4.2 firmware from the given below link:

Download Android 4.4.2 KOT49H- For Android 4.4.1 KOT49E

2.Next connect and mount your phone USB memory on your computer using USB cable.

3.After that copy/paste the update.zip file to your SD card. Make sure that the file is in the root but not in the folders.

4.Then turn OFF your phone and enter into the bootloader mode. After that turn ON the device while pressing and holding the Volume Up and Down button + Power button until you see the fastboot menu and start on top.

5.After that follow the on-screen instructions. Press the Volume Up button several times until you see the recovery option and press power button to select it.

6.Now, you will get an exclamation mark. After that again hold your Volume Up button and Power buttons. Now, you will see the recovery mode menu.

7.Select the update from SD card. Now again select update.zip file and select it with the power button. The installation process will begin in your phone now.

8.Once the process has been finished, the phone will reboot automatically but for that it will take some time so, wait until patiently.

That’s it! To verify whether the update is installed on your phone, Go to Settings>About phone.

Method 2:

1.Download the Android 4.4.2 firmware from the given below link:

Download Android 4.4.2 KOT49H- For Android 4.4.1 KOT49E

2.Next connect and mount your phone USB memory on your computer using USB cable.

3.After that copy/paste the update.zip file to your SD card. Make sure that the file is in the root but not in the folders.

4.Then turn OFF your phone and enter into the bootloader mode. After that turn ON the device while pressing and holding the Volume Up and Down button + Power button until you see the fastboot menu and start on top.

5.After that follow the on-screen instructions. Press the Volume Up button several times until you see the recovery option and press power button to select it.

6.In clockworkmod recovery, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the power button to select it.

7.After that again press the power button and select “choose zip from SD card”.

NOTE (optional) : You must turn off the signature verification from the “toggle signature verification” option.

8.Now select Android 4.4.2 zip by using power keys and confirm the installation on the next screen.

9.Once you have done that, the installation procedure will start on your phone.

10.After completion of the process go to “+++++Go Back” option and reboot your Nexus 4 by selecting “reboot system now” option from the recovery menu. The phone will boot now and for that it will take about 5 minutes.

11.So, wait until the process is finished. That’s it!
